Content Summary/ Directions
Jim Crow Laws are important to history, as it was a time that enforced racial segregation in the Southern United States. This was a time most people remember as being "separate but equal", which came about by the Plessy v. Ferguson court case. This separate but equal principle was followed in all public places. This mandated the segregation of public schools, all public places, restrooms, public transportation, restaurants, and even drinking fountains. This DBQ is meant to answer the question why are Jim Crow Laws an essential aspect of U.S. history?
